ARGENTINA | Mining law. There were violent clashes in Rawson, the capital of the southern province of Chubut, on 15 December between anti-mining demonstrators and police. Protesters threw stones and bottles while the police sought to disperse them with tear gas and rubber bullets. The catalyst for the protests was the approval by the provincial legislature of mining zones where the use of chemical mining treatments, but not cyanide, will be permitted.
