VENEZUELA: Showdown in Barinas
Officially the regional elections of 21 November are done and dusted with the ruling Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela (PSUV) registering another overwhelming victory, taking 19 out of 23 states, as well as the capital Caracas. But the elections have gone a little off script in the state of Barinas where a close and contested result has led to a re-run, now scheduled for 9 January.
