In brief: IMF revises down Brazil’s GDP growth forecast
* The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has released its latest World Economic Outlook report, in which it has revised down projections for Brazil’s GDP growth this year. The IMF now expects Brazil’s economy to grow 5.2% in 2021, down from the 5.3% forecast made in its July update. Projections for 2022 GDP growth have been cut further, by 0.4 percentage points, to 1.5%. In both cases, this is well below the regional average for Latin America and the Caribbean, which is forecast to grow 6.3% this year, and 3% in 2022. The IMF’s GDP forecast for Brazil is in line with the World Bank’s latest projections, released last week, in which Brazil’s GDP is forecast to grow 5.3% this year, and slow to 1.7% growth in 2022.
