* The Unión de Gremios de la Producción (UGP), an umbrella organisation that represents Paraguay’s agribusiness sector, has highlighted that the country’s agricultural performance was the strongest in the region last year, according to figures in a report published earlier this month by the United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac). This was the strongest performance of any country in Latin America and the Caribbean; the countries to post the second and third best agricultural performances were Panama and Guatemala, with 4.3% and 2.9% growth in the agricultural sector, respectively, while Paraguay’s neighbour Argentina saw the worst performance in the primary sector, with a contraction of 7.5%.
