COSTA RICA | Exports show signs of recovery. On 21 June Costa Rica’s official export promotion agency, Procomer, released new figures which show that the country’s exports reached US$5.77bn in the first five months of 2021, up 23% on the same period in 2020. According to Procomer, Costa Rica’s main exports was medical and precision equipment, which accounts for 35% of total exports and was up 41% in the first five months compared with the same period in 2020. The Procomer report also highlighted growth of some agricultural exports, with pineapples, which account for 7% of total exports, up 7% in the first five months of 2021 compared with the same period in 2020. However, Procomer noted that others, like bananas and coffee, which accounted for 7% and 3% of exports respectively, were down 10% and 5% respectively.
