* The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (Eclac) has released its latest growth forecasts for 2021 which show Peru topping the list of South American countries. Eclac forecasts that Peru’s GDP will grow 9.5% this year, followed by Chile (8%); Argentina (6.3%); Colombia (5.4%); Bolivia (5.1%); Brazil (4.5%); Uruguay (4.1%); Paraguay (3.8%) and Ecuador (3%) while it forecasts Venezuela’s GDP will contract by 4%. Eclac also notes that Peru registered the biggest economic contraction in 2020 with its GDP falling by -11.1% followed by Argentina (-9.9%); Bolivia (-8%); Ecuador (-7.8%); Colombia (-6.8%); Uruguay (-5.9%); Chile (-5.8%); Brazil (-4.1%); Paraguay (-0.5%) and Venezuela (-30%).
