Peruvians are still waiting for the national electoral authorities (Onpe) to declare a victor in the second round run-off between Keiko Fujimori and Pedro Castillo. Onpe has completed 100% of the count, which shows that Castillo, of the far-left Perú Libre (PL), defeated Fujimori, of the right-wing Fuerza Popular (FP), by just 44,058 votes. A result cannot be declared, however, until the national electoral tribunal (JNE) considers a legal appeal brought by Fujimori, who has stepped up her claims that she was the victim of electoral fraud and now maintains that “the international left” was behind the outcome of the contest.
