* Argentina’s secretariat of domestic trade, part of the productive development ministry, has launched a new system to monitor the price and stock of products sold by large firms, with the aim of
“better understanding the evolution of prices in each value chain to then design better public policies for the domestic market”, according to a ministry source cited by state news agency
Telam. The government has separately said that the measure will serve to avoid product shortages, strengthen the domestic market, and protect consumer rights. The ‘Sistema Informativo para la Implementación de Políticas de Reactivación Económica’ (Sipre) will require firms in the construction, retail, and industrial activity sectors, with an annual turnover above a certain level, to inform the government every month of their average sales prices, production and sales levels, and level of stock (the information will be kept confidential). An estimated 1,000 firms will be affected by the measure, which is compulsory.
