The shooting of an indigenous Mapuche youth during an operation by the Carabineros militarised police in November 2018, and the attempt by those involved to cover up the crime, shook Chile, prompting protests across the country, renewed unrest in the southern La Araucanía region where the killing took place, and a scandal for the Carabineros [SSR-19-01].
