* Peru’s central bank (BCRP) has released the country’s foreign trade figures for 2020, according to which annual imports totalled US$34.66bn, and annual exports totalled US$42.41bn, leaving a trade surplus of US$7.75bn. This represented a significant increase on the US$6.61bn trade surplus recorded in 2019; both imports and exports were negatively affected in 2020 by the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, but while imports fell by 15.6% year-on-year, exports declined by just 11.6%. This was largely due to the success of agricultural exports, which totalled a record US$7.55bn in 2020, up 6.7% on the US$7.07bn recorded in 2019.
