The conclusion on 28 June of two-decade-long trade talks between the European Union (EU) and the Southern Common Market (Mercosur) has been at the centre of the news in the Mercosur member countries –
Argentina,
Brazil,
Paraguay, and
Uruguay. The terms of the seminal trade agreement and the benefits that Mercosur countries can hope to reap from it are therefore the subject of the first article in this July edition of the
Latin American Regional Report: Brazil & Southern Cone. That is not to say that the deal has not raised doubts and questions on both sides of the Atlantic.
