Growth sluggish. Brazil’s national statistics agency (Ibge) has released figures for second quarter growth, which show that the economy is stagnating. GDP grew just 0.2% in April-June compared to January-March this year, stimulated by 0.3% growth in the services sector alone. Although this is in line with economists’ expectations, following the 11-day lorry drivers’ strike that paralysed the country in May, there is concern that the Brazilian economy is failing to pick up momentum after going through its worst recession in decades.
