Ecuador: ProEcuador, a government body responsible for promoting trade and investment, has revealed that Ecuador received US$6.39bn from non-petroleum exports in the first half of the year, a 4.25% increase over the same period in 2017. According to ProEcuador, statistics from the central bank (BCE) show that exports to the European Union (EU) were up 2.08% during the period compared with last year, after the Andean country signed a free trade agreement (FTA) with the EU in November 2016. Exports to China increased by 100% compared to 2017, with prawns, bananas, and wood among the most important products. Shipments of non-traditional exports such as rice, pitaya, dehydrated fruit, chocolate and snacks increased, while the largest exports were prawns (25.18%), bananas (24.87%), and tinned fish (9.53%).
