*The Mexican confederation of industrial chambers (Concamin) has presented President-elect Andrés Manuel López Obrador’s government transition team with a series of industrial policy proposals that it says will help to ensure that the domestic economy grows at rate of over 5%. Concamin president Francisco Cervantes said that the proposals are designed to promote public and private investment in the industrial sector and to increase the sector’s innovation and production capacity. Cervantes added that the proposals would also put Mexico in a good position to take full advantage of the ‘fourth industrial revolution’ based on the development of robotics, nanotechnology, biotechnology, and artificial intelligence. According to Cervantes, the implementation of the proposed policy would not only stimulate economic activity but also lead to the creation of some 6m jobs by 2021. The proposals were presented to López Obrador’s designated labour minister, Luis María Alcalde Luján, and the government transition team chief of staff, Alfonso Romo.
