* Mexico’s economy minister, Ildefonso Guajardo, has said that the country exported over US$3bn worth of beer in 2017, making it the world’s main exporter of the drink in value terms. Guajardo also noted that thanks to the development of Mexico’s beer industry in recent years, the country has increased its beer exports 16-fold in the past 24 years. Guajardo’s comments came during an event in Ciudad Obregón, Sonora, where multinational alcoholic drink producer Constellation Brands announced it will invest US$900m to increase production at its local beer plant. The firm noted that the investment will support its plan to increase its beer production capacity by some 5m hectolitres a year. It also said that the project will create 450 direct jobs and over 2,000 indirect jobs.
