Argentina: A transport strike is disrupting grain exports from Argentina. The strike was called by the grain transporters association, Transportistas de Granos Autoconvocados (TGA), and has been ongoing for a week. This has disrupted the circulation of lorries that transport cereal and oil seeds across the country. The provinces of Córdoba, Santa Fe, Buenos Aires, and Chaco have registered grain shortages, and drivers heading towards processing plants or the ports have been threatened or lost their cargo through acts of vandalism, according to the board of trade (BCR) of the port city of Rosario, in Santa Fe provicne. This is having a direct impact on business, with the quantity of lorries going into the port of Rosario falling by 70% over the last three days, compared to the same period last week, according to the BCR. A representative from the oils and grains association (Ciara-CEC) told local daily
La Nación that the suspended activity at the Gran Rosario, Necochea, and Bahía Blanca ports meant that 65 ships were stuck, which could generate US$13m in losses if the strike continues for another ten days.
