Ecuador: Ecuador’s transport and public works ministry has announced that on 29 January dredging will begin at the country’s Manta port, located in the northern coastal province of Manabí, as part of the contract to modernise the port between terminal operator, Terminal Portuaria de Manta (TPM), a subsidiary of Chilean company Agunsa, and the Manta port authority (APM). A government press release notes that Envisan, the company contracted to dredge the access channel to a depth of 12.5m, is investing US$4.5m in removing some 1.5m cubic metres of sediment – a project which should last three months. The press release notes that TPM is expected to invest some US$175m over the next 40 years in modernising the port.
