One of Guatemala’s most well-known political figures, Álvaro Arzú, a former president (Partido de Avanzada Nacional, 1996-2000) and the current mayor of Guatemala City, has become the latest senior official to face corruption-related accusations from the United Nations-backed International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (Cicig) and the attorney general’s office (AG).
