Investment in Peru: Peru is one of the fastest growing economies in Latin America, having grown 3.9% in 2016 compared to a regional average of -0.8%, according to the latest ‘Investment Climate Statements 2017’ issued by the US Department of State at the end of June. The government’s countercyclical spending, private investment worth US$36bn, and consumption helped drive this growth. Foreign direct investment in Peru amounted to US$91.5bn in December 2016, up from US$84.6bn at the end of 2014, the report found. Peru’s largest investors are Spain, the UK, the US, and Chile, according to the latest data from ProInversión, the Peruvian government’s private investment promotion agency. Conversely, Peru’s direct investment abroad totals US$2.1bn, the majority of which goes to Chile, Brazil, the US, and Bolivia, according to Peru’s central bank (BCRP).
