Peru's former president behind bars

Peru’s judiciary is following Brazil’s lead and taking extreme measures to crack down on political impunity. A day after Brazil’s former president Lula da Silva (2003-2011) was sentenced to jail, his leftist ally, former Peruvian president Ollanta Humala (2011-2016), was detained for money laundering. But Peruvian prosecutors are still scratching the surface of an investigation into a global graft scheme linked to Brazilian construction company Odebrecht, which could take many years to complete.
