Trade up with US: Last month the local private sector lobby, Instituto Boliviano de Comercio Exterior (IBCE), published a report which showed that Bolivian exports to the US have risen sharply in recent years despite the July 2009 decision by the US government not to renew trade privileges for Bolivia under the Andean Trade Promotion and Drug Eradication Act (Atpdea). The US government’s decision followed the 2008 bilateral diplomatic spat triggered by spying allegations against the then US envoy to La Paz, Philip Goldberg, which resulted in the expulsion of the US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) from Bolivia and the withdrawal of the respective ambassadors.
