Panama: President Juan Carlos Varela and José Graziano da Silva, the director general of the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), have agreed to promote agricultural development in Panama’s comarcas (indigenous administrative regions) which occupy 22% of Panama’s national territory. Accompanied by Foreign Minister Luis Miguel Hincapié and Agricultural Development Minister Eduardo Enrique Carles, Varela said that agricultural production will be stimulated in these areas, taking advantage of the investments made by his administration, with more than US$408.9m invested in areas such as road infrastructure, education, housing and basic sanitation and water.
