In brief: Mexico

The national hydrocarbons commission (CNH) has scheduled 31 January 2018 as the new date for the next deep-water oil and gas concessions public tender process, with the guidelines for the process due to be published today (20 July). The CNH said that his new tender process (‘Round two’) includes 30 exploration blocks located in the Gulf of Mexico, including ten in the Cordilleras Mexicanas basin. This will be the first time that international players will have access to these blocs since Mexico’s landmark 2013-2014 energy sector reform, which ended the monopoly on oil and gas production by the state-owned oil firm, Pemex, and opened up Mexico’s energy sector to increased private participation.
