Opposition leader Leopoldo López has been transferred from prison to house arrest. On 12 July López had telephone conversations with Luis Almagro, secretary general of the Organization of American States (OAS), and José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero, former prime minister of Spain (2004-2011) and lead international mediator in the Venezuelan crisis, formally on behalf of the Union of South American Nations (Unasur).
