President Juan Carlos Varela last month announced progress vis-à-vis efforts to strengthen and implement measures against money laundering, the financing of terrorism, and proliferation of weapons of mass destruction. The issue has been a major priority for the Partido Panameñista (PPA)-led El Pueblo Primero (EPP) coalition government following the ‘Panama Papers’ scandal – the biggest leak of secret information in history which made headlines in April 2016 [RC-16-04].
