The Partido Revolucionario Institucional (PRI) look set to remain in control of the governorship of the Estado de México (Edomex) following the state elections held there and concurrently in states of Nayarit, Coahuila, and Veracruz on 4 June. Given that Edomex is a traditional PRI political bastion and that it is considered to be a good bellwether for the presidential elections that are due next year [RM-17-04], if the PRI’s victory is confirmed, the chances of the ruling party retaining the presidency next year would be enhanced.
