Argentina: On 24 May, the US State Department issued a statement on the previous day’s inaugural meeting of the US-Argentina Cyber Policy Working Group, attended by government officials from the US and Argentina. According to the press release, the “meeting focused on key cybersecurity initiatives including implementing national cyber policy frameworks, protecting networks, developing a cyber workforce, and managing cyber incidents”. Officials also discussed policy coordination, information sharing, and the protection of critical infrastructure, with an emphasis on public-private cooperation. The US delegation was headed by the US State Department’s Coordinator for Cyber Issues Christopher Painter, while the Argentine delegation was headed by José Hirschson, the deputy secretary for technology and cybersecurity at Argentina’s modernisation ministry. The launch of the US-Argentina Cyber Policy Working Group was announced during the visit to Washington DC by Argentina’s President Mauricio Macri back in April. The working group will serve as a policy-level channel for identifying cyber issues of mutual concern and developing new joint initiatives. It will also strengthen and help protect the economic and security interests of both countries.
