Colombia: Julio César Rivera has denied having any links to the Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia (Farc) guerrillas following his election as mayor of the city of Tumaco, Nariño department, in the 23 April by-election held in the city. Opposition candidates accused Rivera of having links with the Farc, which is now in the process of formally demobilising after signing a peace deal with the Colombian government last year, after he received the backing of local peasant farmer organisations in Tumaco, which have long been associated with the Farc.
