Argentina: On 24 March, the Argentine government led by President Mauricio Macri denied accusations by the US biodiesel industry that Argentine producers had exported biodiesel fuel at dumping prices and that they enjoy unfair subsidies. This followed demands made on 23 March by the US National Biodiesel Board (NBB) to the US Department of Commerce’s International Trade Commission for antidumping duties to be imposed on biofuel imports from Argentina. In an official statement, Argentina’s foreign ministry notes that the accusations “have no foundation” and have already been rejected by international tribunals. It states that Argentina’s “highly efficient” biofuel industry and “comparative advantage in soya production” make it a target of protectionist measures. Last year, the World Trade Organisation (WTO) ruled in favour of Argentina against similar antidumping duties imposed by the European Union (EU).
