Government launches restoration initiative amid flooding

Economy & Finance Minister Alfredo Thorne has pledged at least PEN 2.4bn (US$741m) towards reconstruction works after torrential rains ravaged Peru. Besides restoring the country’s flattened infrastructure, the government headed by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski will be looking to rebuild its own popularity, which was has taken a battering in recent months.
