Opposition complaints about the politicisation of justice in the country have been reignited by a recent court order against Ernesto Suárez, the former governor of Beni department (2006-2012), and other members of the Movimiento Demócrata Social (MDS), which comprises the rump of the former regional opposition governors’ bloc, Consejo Nacional Democrático (Conalde). This comes at a time when the judiciary is likely to remain under scrutiny. Elections are due in October for the supreme justice court (TSJ), the constitutional court (TCP), the council of magistrates, and the environmental court (TA). This is the second popular vote for these bodies, following one held in 2011 which the Movimiento al Socialismo (MAS) government led by President Evo Morales has since admitted was a failure.End of preview - This article contains approximately 1351 words.
