Kuczynski is first Latin American leader to meet Trump

Honduras: On 2 March, US Representative Hank Johnson (D-GA), with support from 24 other Democratic Party members of the US Congress, re-introduced the ‘Berta Cáceres Human Rights in Honduras Act’, one year after the murder of Honduran environmental and indigenous rights leader, Berta Cáceres. The bill, which was first introduced in March 2016, would suspend US aid funding to Honduras for its police and military operations, until the Honduran government begins an investigation into law enforcement violating human rights in Honduras. A press release by Johnson’s office notes that “Recent reports indicate that two of the men allegedly involved in Berta Cáceres’ murder were trained in the US - at Fort Benning in Georgia - through the Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation (WHINSEC), commonly known as the School of the Americas”. The press release added that this fact underscores the need for increased oversight of US resources and security assistance provided to Honduras, which intensifies the need of re-introducing the bill.
