Telefónica Movistar, the second biggest mobile telephone operator in
Mexico, announced on 8 April that it would not cut off subscribers who failed to
register their phones with the government agency, Registro Nacional de Usarios
de Telefonía Móvil (Renaut). The deadline for registering phones with Renaut was
10 April. Three days after the deadline, Telefónica said that it would seek an
injunction to allow its customers to continue to use their phones. The idea of a
register of mobile phones is an attempt by the authorities to curb the use of
phones in crime.End of preview - This article contains approximately 687 words.
