Argentina: On 14 September the US ambassador to Argentina, Noah Mamet, met Daniel Scioli, the Buenos Aires province governor and presidential candidate for the ruling Frente Para la Victoria (FPV) faction of the Partido Justicialista (PJ, Peronists), in Bahía Blanca city located in the south-west of the province of Buenos Aires. They pair were attending an event held with Gastón Remy, the regional president for Latin America southern region for the US multilateral Dow Chemical Company, at which Remy announced that Dow Chemical Company will invest U$48m in the Bahía Blanca branch to expand its productive capacity. Scioli said that the investment would allow the Buenos Aires province to take “one step forward in the strengthening of our regional leadership in petrochemicals”. According to a US embassy press release, Mamet’s visit to Bahía Blanca was his first since arriving in Argentina in January 2015 and “part of an official tour the ambassador is undertaking to strengthen relations between the provinces, its people and the US”.
