BOLIVIA: Military defiant over archives

The recent order to declassify military archives spanning the dictatorship of General Luis Garcí­a Meza (1980-81) as part of efforts to redress past human rights abuses [WR-10-07] continues to meet with resistance from the army leadership. The signs of disgruntlement from the top brass, which has otherwise been supportive of the government of President Evo Morales, come on the heels of his recent emphasis on a revised and expanded role for the armed forces, under the new constitution.
