Fuel theft continues to rise. The state oil company Pemex reported on 10 August that since the beginning of the year it had detected 3,093 illegal taps on its pipelines, 56% more than in the same period of 2014 and more than twice the number recorded a year earlier. The rise has continued despite measures taken to curb the risk. Controls have been enhanced to prevent leakage of the precise timetables of pumping through the duct, and last February Pemex began to let it be known that it was pumping unrefined fuels (petrol and diesel) not immediately usable in vehicles.
