Bolivia: On 21 January the Chargé d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Bolivia, Peter Brennan, said that US-Bolivia diplomatic relations (severed in 2008) were at a “good point”. Brennan made the remarks while attending President Evo Morales’s indigenous swearing-in ceremony held at the ancient site of Tiwanaku, the day before his official inauguration. Brennan was part of the US delegation headed up by Assistant Secretary of State for Democracy, Human Rights, and Labor Tom Malinowski. After a meeting with Bolivia’s foreign minister, David Choquehuanca, after Morales’s official inauguration, Malinowski expressed hopes that bilateral diplomatic relations would be fully restored soon, although he failed to give any specifics or a time frame.
