COLOMBIA: Uribe gets his man

Óscar Iván Zuluaga will be the presidential candidate for Centro Democrático (CD), the party of former president Alvaro Uribe (2002-2010), in next May’s elections. Zuluaga, Uribe’s former finance minister, won 56% of the vote to secure the candidacy in a CD party convention. Zuluaga was the preferred choice of Uribe, who is heading the CD senate list, but opinion surveys strongly suggest that the public disagree. As such, while his triumph might be a success for Uribe, it looks like a setback for Uribismo.
