MEXICO: New Juárez cartel suffers ‘decapitation’

The drive by President Enrique Peña Nieto’s administration to capture or kill ‘high-value’ bosses of drug cartels has clocked another major coup: the arrest on 31 August of Alberto Carrillo Fuentes, brother of the late Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the ‘lord of the skies’ who founded the Juárez cartel and of his successor, Vicente. Alberto has been presented as the founder of the Nuevo Cartel de Juárez, in which role he had been leading an offensive to regain territory lost to the Sinaloa/Pacífico cartel.
