BOLIVIA: Arrest of police officer in US reopens can of worms

A high-ranking Bolivian police officer was arrested in Miami in a sting operation set up by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), as he sought a bribe from the former owner of the AeroSur airline in exchange for making a court case against him disappear. He was promptly disowned by the Bolivian government and the police, but his background and an admission by a serving minister suggest a cover-up which might prove to have broad ramifications.
