ARGENTINA: Rising violence & police corruption in the interior

Argentina has long been a transit country for drugs, mainly cocaine, from producers in Peru and Bolivia and to markets overseas. It has also been moving, so far on a small scale, into the category of cocaine producer. With traffic on the increase, it has been experiencing a rise in associated criminal violence and the penetration of law enforcement agencies by the drug traffickers. Recent developments in the provinces of Santa Fe and Córdoba illustrate how this has been spreading from the capital to the interior.
