Colombia and Ecuador have agreed a deal which seeks to bring to a close a long-running dispute over the use of glyphosate in Colombia’s coca eradication operations. On 12 September Ecuador’s state prosecutor, Diego García, formally withdrew a lawsuit Ecuador had brought before the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at The Hague against Colombia for the spraying of glyphosate to destroy illicit coca crops along their joint border. Ecuador withdrew the suit after signing an accord with Colombia to provide compensation for Ecuadorean farmers affected by the spraying.
