NICARAGUA: Ortega under pressure

The electoral watchdog, Ética y Transparencia (EyT) this week released its final report on the 9 November municipal elections, showing that fraud took place in at least 40 of the 146 municipalities in which contests were held. The report's publication piles pressure on President Daniel Ortega: the opposition is planning fresh protests, and international donors are increasingly unlikely to restore funding, suspended in light of transparency concerns.
