BOLIVIA | BOA announces more routes. On 15 January Bolivia’s state-owned airline carrier, Boliviana de Aviación (BOA) announced that from next month it will begin operating flights connecting Bolivian cities to the US destinations of Washington and Miami. The announcement was made by public works minister, Vladimir Sánchez, who explained that flights operated by planes with a 300-passenger capacity will fly from La Paz, Santa Cruz de la Sierra, and Cochabamba to the US. Following the collapse of flag carrier airline, AeroSur, last year BOA become Bolivia’s only airline, taking over AeroSur’s profitable routes to Europe. According to Sánchez the company, which last year carried some 1m passengers, is also considering expanding its fleet this year with the purchase of 12 new planes in order to meet an expected increase in demand.
