Fidel Castro last week pronounced a remarkable eulogy of his brother Raúl and
the reforms he has carried out since assuming the presidency of Cuba. It was
remarkable because Fidel has been reticent about Raúl's performance and at times
openly critical of some of the reforms he has implemented. Fidel also denied
that there is a schism in the Communist party or that he heads a faction within
it. The fact that he felt compelled to issue this denial suggests that at the
very least there is real tension within the party.
