The Centre for Economic Policy Research, a London-based independent academic and policy research think-tank, released its 10th Global Trade Alert (GTA) this week, in which it warned that “the world trading system may face its greatest test in the year ahead” due to the mounting global trend of protectionism. Surprisingly, the UK, the supposed bastion of economic liberalism, features (along with Germany) high on the top ten list of the worst offenders.
