ECONOMIC OVERVIEW: BOLIVIA

Salary increases: On 18 April the government agreed a deal with Bolivia's main umbrella union, Central Obrera Bolivia (COB), over the minimum wage. The COB had rejected the government's offer of a 10% wage increase for health sector workers, teachers, the armed forces and police officials, on top of a 20% increase in the minimum wage; instead, it was calling for a 15% increase. The final deal saw the government offer an 11% rise with the possibility of increasing it to 12% for health and education workers.
