Venezuela in crisis

Hugo Chávez's appearances since his cancer diagnosis have been carefully stage-managed to ensure maximum PR impact with minimal public exposure of the clearly weak and often jaundiced-looking president. His presence back on the ground in Venezuela (from Cuba) had become imperative to restoring a sense of political stability. His absence had created a power vacuum and raised too many constitutional questions, creating immense uncertainty. Yet the president's return only puts some of those questions to rest.
