Patrick Manning leads the right-of-centre People's National Movement (PNM). Originally trained as a geologist, he entered government service in the early 1970s and went on to have a prominent political career. He was prime minister from 1991 to 1995 and regained power in 2001 amid unprecedented political wrangling.
