Perry Christie is leader of the left-leaning Progressive Liberal Party (PLP). A career politician, he became in 1974 the youngest Bahamian appointed to the Senate. He has represented the Centreville constituency in the House of Assembly continuously since 1977, the same year he entered the cabinet. He led the PLP to a sweeping victory in elections in May 2002.
